Wiki Category: Xonthian

The world of Xonthian is thick with diversity and rich in history. From Xonthian City, where humans live their lives in a large city while the outskirts have some of the land’s richest crops and farms. Or the island of Juan’kij, where the elves have secluded themselves in the forests of Timilik. The Dwarves living peacefully under the Shadow Mountains, and the Atticatten, who have hidden away on the easternmost peninsula of Xecutran. Where Orcs, Ogres and darker races who live in long-forgotten jungles and swamps, or in the shadows of lost civilizations. To the undiscovered lands of the east, where magic, sword, and gunslingers travel desert vistas.

Yensi

Once a major trading hub between the Elves and the rest of humankind, Yensi fell into disrepair after the One Hundred Year War. Since then, it has regained its status as a major hub and has even become a tourist stop for those seeking to spot the grand Phoenix’s rebirth. The town itself sits on Phoenix Lake, a bird-shaped body of water that despite its shape, was named for the mythical creature that comes here to die and reincarnate itself. Travelers from all over the world come to bathe in the magical waters, some claiming that it heals ailments, though that has never been proven. Yensi is a colorful city, with vibrant shades of reds, oranges, and yellows in homage to the feathered creature.   The lake itself is crystal clear blue and at its heart and is the deepest lake in the world. Commercial fishermen are prohibited from the lake, however, enterprising solo fishermen, who wish to try their luck with line and real, make a living selling their catch to local restaurants.

These homes became hotels and bed and breakfasts, catering the travelers looking to spot the Phoenix smoldering deep in the lake.

Timilik City

Found in the heart of the Timilik Forest, the Timilik City is a rare and ancient settlement, dating back to before the world shattered. Built lovingly into the embrace of trees, rock, and water features, the city looks more like a work of art, than a living and breathing town. White marble structures make up the heart of the kingdom, where the castle stretches high into the treetops. Trees, bushes, and other flora have taken over the structures, adding to their beauty. Homes, shops, and other government buildings are scattered around the city in a semi-circle, reminiscent of a moon.   During the Hundred Year War, the kingdom cut itself off from the rest of the world. This was done to keep the kingdom’s security, as well as that of the forest. The Fire Isle Mages attempted to invade the forest but quickly found that it was defended by more than just elves. After the war, the magical wards were dropped and trade opened up once again.

Oleve

The capital of Juan’kij sits on the coast, nestled in the pit of a natural bay. Oleve is the only shipping port on the island. Goods from the rest of the island make their way to the city and get shipped to the rest of the world. Oleve is also home to the Mayor Council, where the Mayor’s from the other cities, and leaders from smaller villages, come together to fix policies and enforce new laws. Because Juan’kij is a neutral island between the two major kingdoms, it over sees its own lands, but works with and sells its goods equally to the other kingdoms. Occupied during the Hundred Year War, the Fire Isle Mages at one point had total control over the island, causing factions of resistance fighters to eventually spring up in their shadow. Although the resistance never grew bold enough to push the Fire Isle Mages off the island, with the help of Tiger, they did eventually free the island from the mages. Oleve was the site of the last battle and became known as the start of the end of the war.

Yensi

The island of Juan’kij was the first to fall when the Fire Isle Mages invaded during the Hundred Year War. It is a rich land, filled with resources they could ship away to support their war efforts across Xonthian and Xecutran. Because the island had no active military system, it fell quickly during the invasion. Both Xonthian and Xecutran kingdoms were oblivious to the disaster until it was too late. Neither country had lay claim to the island, so neither had an army stationed there. During the age of discovery before the war, the island was under the control of Xecutran. When Xonthian rediscovered it, they invaded and took it over. The brief war that followed, forced the two nations into an agreement that left the island alone and used it as a neutral state with governing bodies present in both courts. Because it had no real ties with the outside kingdoms, they never developed an army of much power and so it fell to the Fire Isle Mages might.

Juan’kij is also the home of the Elves, who live in the north in the Timlik Forest.

Tower of Magi

The Tower of Magi and the surrounding town is the main fortress and compound of the Fire Isle Mage’s. Comprised of mostly scattered stone buildings that house various magical arts, the town also boasts a hefty trade in sulfur from the outlying volcanic outlets on the islands. All of the homes are built from the same dark grey and black rock that make up the island. The tower itself, is a single tower, with smaller ones around the outer rim of the wall. The Mage’s Archive, school, and a mass hall make up the innermost buildings. The biggest problem for the mages is growing food, which they have learned to adapt into a vast underground plantation, hidden away in the mountains, along with various greenhouses which also act as food sources.

Fire Isle

Tower of the Magi

Home to the Fire Isle Mages, the Fire Isles is a collection of shattered, rock-strewn islands with deep and old caverns that were once spillways for magma. There is still an active subterranean sea of lava below the island’s largest Volcano, Mount Kiafiar.   There are several islands within the chain isle’s, the largest being Forik Island on the eastern side.

The main home of the Mages, the Tower of Magi located on the Forik Island on the coast of the Maelstrom Sea.

The islands are grey and mostly bare, with very little vegetation. Freshwater is a constant battle and is hard to find for anyone stranded on the isles. Food, especially plants, is hard to grow in the open, thanks to the highly acidic nature of the ashen earth. The smell of sulfur hangs in the air, the closer to Mount Kiafiar you get. Although the Malestrom Sea and the winds caused by it constantly churn the air, giving the island some fresh air along the coastline, it remains thick and heavy.   The Tower of Magi and surrounding village is home to tens of thousands of cast-out Mages, who have established families in the harsh environment of the isles. The Tower, built during the Hundred Year War, is a tall, round structure built using Magic, and imbued with enchantments that cost the lives of hundreds of mages during its construction. Capable of protection against the raging elements that constantly bombard the isles, the Tower is used as a focus for the Mages, as well as a place of learning. The Tower, and the surrounding compound, which includes a library and studies, eventually come under the control of Illusia, who brings the Mages into a new age.   The largest predator on the island beside the occasional imp or fire-lizard is the undead Dragon known as ShadowMane. A product of necromancy long before the world shattered, the dragon hides away deep under Mount Kiafiar.
